Andrew Wong, bartender, is helping change kids’ lives one boxing class at a time.

For the last ten years Andrew has volunteered for Fighting Island Boxing Club in Amherstburg where he teaches young fighters the fundamentals of boxing, which helps improve their body and mind, as well as build their confidence.

Andrew found boxing at a young age when he needed to build his confidence and help defend himself at school.

The reward for Andrew is watching the students grow. “I have never seen so many kids whose lives have been transformed since coming to boxing. Their home and school lives have improved and they’re more talkative and confident.”

The perpetual volunteer, Andrew also gives his time to a multitude of organizations including Eastside Boxing, Windsor Amateur Boxing, Erie Wildlife Rescue and the Windsor Youth Centre. For the past few years Andrew has also been freezin’ for a reason at the Windsor Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics and will be jumping again this year.
